"I make things you want to live with — not look at from a distance."
Born in 1956 in Victoria, BC, Craig found his true calling in wood art after retiring from a career in commercial construction. With over 2,000 pieces crafted from reclaimed Vancouver Island wood, his work spans sculpture, functional art, steel forging, and glass.
His subjects come from the natural world he loves — humpbacks, orcas, salmon, seals, and horses. Each piece is shaped by the material itself, not forced into a template.
Raw steel shaped by heat, hammer, and patience. Blackened centres, natural rust patina, edges that catch the light differently every hour of the day.
Faceted animal heads built from reclaimed timber — bold, architectural forms that anchor a room. Available in raw, painted, or rust finishes.
Not everything Toby & Tide makes is monumental. Harbour seals, whale vases, engraved boards — intimate originals that make extraordinary gifts.
Toby & Tide takes on a limited number of commissions each year. Tell Craig what you're thinking — subject, scale, setting, budget — and he'll tell you if it's possible.
Most commissions take 4–8 weeks from deposit to delivery. Ships across Canada and internationally.
The driftwood whale Craig made for our living room is the first thing everyone asks about. It feels like it's always belonged there.

We commissioned an engraved board as a wedding gift. The couple cried when they opened it. The craftsmanship is extraordinary.

The geometric horse is the most asked-about thing in our home. Every visitor stops and stares. Worth every dollar.
